The goal of the undergraduate program in Biological Sciences is to produce qualified graduates fully prepared to enter top professional schools and graduate programs or to gain employment in their chosen fields.

To meet that goal, we provide quality instruction in biology at all levels. Our students are exposed to historical and current perspectives, theoretical and practical applications of knowledge, laboratory techniques. Our excellent academic and professional advising system provides each student with an advisor knowledgeable in the student’s chosen concentration, as well as a dedicated pre-professional advising office.

B.S. in Biological Sciences

Within the Biological Sciences major, there are seven curricular tracks leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. While each track is oriented towards a specific career goal, each one also provides the depth and breadth of the science of biology needed to attain a Biological Sciences degree.

Our major has a two year introductory sequence that lays a solid foundation in general biology plus in-depth introductions to genetics, cell biology and evolution, three essential unifying topics. Students then take upper level courses chosen for specific career preparation. The Biological Sciences Bachelor of Science degree requires extensive supplementary course work in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and statistics. These, in combination with the biology coursework, ensure that each student is fully prepared to embark on his/her chosen post-graduation path.

B.A. in Biological Sciences

There are two curricular tracks leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences: one with a human health emphasis and one in environmental biology. Both provide a sound science background, but with far greater concentration in the social sciences than the Bachelor of Science tracks. This interdisciplinary emphasis of the B.A. gives students the flexibility to prepare for a wide range of higher education and career opportunities in allied health, social service, and environmental fields.
