Paleozoic Vertebrate Paleontology My research centers on evolutionary patterns and processes in early gnathostome vertebrates (Middle and Upper Devonian). This work is based, in part, on an active field program collecting fossil fishes from regional deposits (OH, PA, NY, MI, KY, IL, MO). Fieldwork incorporates aspects of geological and biological sciences in an effort to understand the organism and its paleo-environment. A regional emphasis allows for the analysis of biogeographic effects on the distribution and evolution of fishes within adjacent basins and the comparison of regional faunas before and after major global extinction events in the mid-Paleozoic Era.
