A Dissection Guide and Atlas to the Fetal Pig (Smith and Schenk, 1998) has excellent color photographs of the fetal pig to supplement the lab manual.
Latex injected into blood vessels makes the veins blue and the arteries red.
PLAN your dissection (read directions beforehand).
Do as little cutting as possible and never remove a part unless told to do so.
Work slowly in the beginning, do not hesitate to ask questions.
Work with your partner (one dissecting, one directing).
Use gentle pressure, fetal tissues are soft.
Make sure to understand how tissues, organs, and body systems fit together into an integrated organism.
