About Rush Elliot

Rush Elliott graduated from Ohio University in 1924. He received his master’s degree from Ohio State and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, returning to Ohio University as assistant professor of zoology in 1930. He was promoted to associate professor in 1932 and full professor in 1938.

An anatomist, Dr. Elliott was co-author of a textbook and lab manual and author of numerous research publications. He served as Department Chair, Director of the Summer Session, Dean of the University College and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He retired in 1973 and died in 1981.

Dr. Elliott is remembered by generations of students as an outstanding teacher and a caring and conscientious advisor. Through the generosity of his family and alumni of the Department of Biological Sciences, the Rush Elliott Premedical Award, the Rush Elliott Pre-professional Scholarships, the Rush Elliott Pre-professional Advisor’s Account and the Rush Elliott Endowed Professorship have been established.
